Will Leitch deserves a Purple Heart.
Jesus christ, let’s face it: to everyone watching Costas Now from Buzz’s “side” of things, Will lost that one on a picket-fence decision. Buzz came down hard and fast, Will didn’t really get a word in edgewise (or at least one that could’ve course corrected the damage Buzz had already done to both himself and the greater sports media - Deadspin included). It was ugly.
But he went to battle for the cause with more reasonable people (on a show I’ve never considered reasonable in the least), and did well. Either way, Will’s not just speaking for Deadspin vis-a-vis Mainstream Sports Media so much as Blogs and Everything Else. He deserves to be commended not just for having a nuanced, articulate opinion, but for managing to look dignified while serving it to people who can barely disguise their hatred for what he does (as opposed to this).
